nutrition
We are all individuals with one common denominator: We want to be healthy.
When it comes to nutrition my goal is to help you nourish a healthy relationship with food, learning how to properly fuel your body rather than punish it with restrictive diets and deprivation. I want to help you navigate the confusing clutter of fad diets, influencers, skinny teas and detoxes by filling you with skills and knowledge that can help you have a healthy flexible approach to food and nutrition in a way to works with your bio-individuality.
- This approach starts with keeping nutrition simple.
- The bulk of your nutritional choices should come from real whole foods. Work to eliminate added sugars and chemicals. Learn to listen to your body and how you feel when you omit or readmit these things into your body.
I do agree that understanding and counting macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats), has a time and a place in the nutritional world, especially for a learning tool in your nutritional journey. However, it is not a healthy sustainable lifestyle! While I do have programs that teach/educate about macros, you will not find it in the daily nutritional guidance.
Dairy?
I recommend the elimination diet to test your tolerance for dairy. Every individual is different and we have to find what works best for us. Cut ALL dairy for 90 days, totally flushing your system and then test different types of dairy individually to see how they affect you. Test 1 thing at a time and give your body 3 days before trying something new. After 90 days without a "toxin" your body WILL TELL YOU when you are eating something that does not agree with it, I promise.
If you are dealing with a hormone imbalance, such as PCOS it is recommended to stay away from dairy. The argument of no dairy for woman suffering from PCOS is that dairy contains IGF-1, which is a hormone stimulant and the whole goal of combating PCOS is balancing our hormones. So, ingesting a hormone stimulant should be on the bottom of your list.
Just Say NO to Soy!
This is a controversial topic and highly debated topic in most health circles. Listed below are some of the top reasons to eliminate soy products from your life.
Soybeans contain large quantities of natural toxins or “anti-nutrients”. First among them are potent enzyme inhibitors that block the action of trypsin and other enzymes needed for protein digestion.
Soy contains plant estrogen in the form of isoflavones which effectively raise your estrogen levels and therefore lowers your testosterone levels. Those hormones are in competition so more of one means less of the other. Having abnormally high levels of estrogen can disrupt your periods, fertility and put you at risk for breast cancer.
99% of soy is genetically modified and it among the highest contamination by pesticides of any of our foods.
Soy foods have a high concentration of goitrogens which block production of thyroid hormones.
